Join us for a FREE week inside The New Rules Studio
Six guided sessions, one week, zero dollars. No pressure. No prep. No judgment. If you’ve been meaning to get back to your writing—or start it—this is a no-brainer.
Join us for the first full FREE week of our live, virtual, critic-free writing program.

Why you'll write more easily here than in any other writing room.
You think that knowing what you’re doing “wrong” will make you a better, more productive writer. Nope.
The reason people write more, and better, with us than they ever have before is because this approach removes the critic from the equation—and with it, the block between you and your work.
The New Rules Studio, or “Studio” for short, is a live, virtual workshop designed to get you writing — without snobbery, douchery, or ego-fueled fuckery.
What makes it different from other writing groups? It’s informed by the Gateless Method, a framework and approach to generating new work in a way that helps us sidestep the critic and access some serious flow on the page.
Welcome to clench-free,
cringe-free, critic-free writing.
Every session features a powerful prompt to get you writing, inside of a structure and process that will help you spark new ideas that you didn’t even know you had.
Craft-focused writing means no criticism, judgment, comparison, competition. When you look at what’s working, you can make the act of writing easier, more fluid, more fun.
You’ll be surprised by what you write! People always are.

What you’ll do during Studio
>> Write. You’ll practice a fresh, judgment-free approach to writing that frees up your mind, releases limitations, and taps your creativity.
>> Reflect. Imagine! A few moments every day to focus on…you! This might be the best part of all.
>> Connect. Every day you’ll have the opportunity to submit your thoughts, reflections, or aha! moments to be shared with attendees. We want to hear it all!
>> Plan. You will return to your life after Studio just a little different than when you began. And of course, we'd love you to stay!
What people are saying about Studio
“What I love about Studio is that it helps me to ground my writing, to trust my writing more. I love that it takes out the drama. You just start, you go. You don’t question it. You just do it. Also to listen to others' work is so inspiring. It’s so clear that everybody has a voice—a very distinct, very different voice.” — Walli H.
“It’s allowed me to write more. The prompts are really helping me a lot. I just feel better when I’m writing in Studio, which encourages me to come back to the next one.” — Karen S.
"Studio showed me that I can indeed be a writer. I have loved every minute of it. Aside from learning about craft, gaining confidence… I think what I appreciate the most is the positivity, the genuine support. It has lit me up from the inside many many times." — Tracy H.
Here's how it works
This is a no-stress situation!
When you sign up for the event, you’ll receive an email with all the info you need.
You’re welcome to come to all of the sessions or just some. You certainly don’t need to come to all! We just wanted to make lots of options available.
We will meet live on Zoom in a meeting set-up (camera optional, but it’d be great to see you).
We’ll go over the guidelines, give you your prompt, and you’re off to the races!
You’ll write for 10-20 minutes (it varies), and then the instructors will call on people to share what they just wrote (no pressure ever).
To get the full benefit of this experience, we ask that you start from a blank page vs. an existing draft. We only share what has been written during that session.
Your work isn't going to write itself.

FAQs
Is this a live event?
Yes! Studio is a live and ongoing program that meets virtually several times a week. This special event is like an open house, where we’re giving new people a chance to try it out.
I can’t make the live calls! Will there be replays?
Think of the regular Studio sessions like yoga class at the gym. If you miss it, you miss it. We’ve made sure there are plenty of sessions at different times this week (we added a few) so that you can make whichever ones work with your schedule. We certainly don’t expect everyone to come to every single session!
NOTE: While there are no replays of the regular Studio sessions, Terri’s sessions on Monday and Friday will be available as replays.
What if I don't consider myself a writer — will I be out of my league?
Not at all. That’s the beauty of this approach: We all start from a blank page.
Some people have been writing inside the Gateless container for ten years (like me!), and others a few weeks, if that. Know that part of what makes Studio and other Gateless spaces non-competitive is that we do not “graduate” to other levels or scale a hierarchy.
It doesn’t matter if you used to be a writer or are currently a professional writer or have never picked up a pen. We are a very diverse group.
…Trust me, if you are reading this deep into the registration page, I’m PRETTY sure you’re supposed to be here with us.
What kind of writing will we do — fiction or nonfiction?
Ah so glad you asked. Doesn’t matter. Why? Because this approach serves writing of allll kinds, whether you’re working on a novel, writing a talk, or drafting social media content and email newsletters. Writing is writing is writing. And the more you do, the more you want to do.
If you’re a nonfiction writer and you want to dabble in fiction? Do it! Novelist and you want to start writing a Substack? Perfect. We are genre-agnostic!
