The ONE THING that
will transform how you see yourself, your ability, and your future.

Hi! Terri here.

I’ve tried A LOT of different things over the years to improve myself and how I show up in the world — personally and professionally. (Hint: those two things are not as separate as people think.)

I’ve done meditation to focus. Yoga to release tension. Weights to feel strong. Courses to learn skills.

And here’s the thing: They all work! Lots of things work!

But nothing—nothing—has fundamentally shifted the way I think about my own ability, potential, and value like the act of writing and listening in a critic-free environment. Not one thing.

It’s not just that this method makes my writing better (which it absolutely does and has); it has made everything better, easier, more fulfilling.

The practice I use and teach is not just for writers. But it does start with writing–creating, sharing, and listening–in a critic-free environment. It starts with getting it “on the page.” This approach has helped me see myself, my skill set, my ability, and my future differently.

I’d always been “good” at writing, got “good” grades, produced “good” work. But I never felt all that great about it.

My work was always on probation, pending someone else’s judgment or evaluation. I was always waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I told myself that I couldn’t write a book or in another genre, like fiction, and gave myself lists of reasons why.

But when I began to practice this particular approach—to look for what’s working, to focus on strength, to really listen and lift others—things changed.

…It wasn’t just about being more “optimistic”; it was about being attuned to strengths.

…It wasn’t about being “confident”; it was about being courageous.

…It wasn’t about garnering approval; it was about getting to the core of who I am.

This approach has made me braver, more honest.

Because of it, I’m more willing to stake my claim on things that I believe are worth claiming, to do work that’s worth doing, because I trust MYSELF.

Add to the mix a supportive and safe community, positive reinforcement, and an upbeat vibe, and I was sold.

This is what my approach (based on The Gateless Method) is for, what it does—and it has everything to do with writing, yet not in the way you might assume.

Writing is central to your self-expression, and the way you connect and contribute. You can’t possibly become strong in your own voice if you don’t write and believe in the work itself.

Writing is not a trick that only a few learn. Are some people clever? Sure. Are some people really good? Yes! Just as people who sell cars more often will sell more than you in a week if you’ve never done it.

Here’s what you should know about my approach:

Writing isn’t an asset that you deliver for someone else’s assessment; it’s the physical manifestation of your voice, something you can share, send, distribute, amplify.

It’s synonymous with what you have to offer the world—and has value in and of itself.

That means the closer we get to the page, the closer we can get to ourselves and to the meaning and purpose of what we do — and the more courage we’ll have to share our worth and work.

What I teach in this workshop is how to reclaim agency in your work and your life—not through bravado and boasting, but through a true, unalloyed connection to what we actually have to say.

Writing is how we learn, how we create, ultimately, who we are. It’s the how and the what—and the way—we explore what has happened and is happening, while remaining open and receptive to what could happen, what we’re capable of.

This is the power of the page: It reveals and transforms who you are and how, and what, you create in the world.

And when you practice it, the effects spill over into other areas of our lives; not just your writing or your work, but your perspective, your relationships, the way you approach every opportunity and challenge.

In my workshops you’ll learn to…

  • Listen in a deep and non-judgmental way to yourself and others
  • Focus on your strengths and craft
  • Articulate what makes your work powerful and clear
  • Practice trusting yourself and others
  • Tune out the critic and keep it from hindering momentum

You can’t do these things and NOT change…

  • Your relationships
  • Your self talk
  • Your attention
  • Your behavior

It doesn’t happen all at once, of course! Any more than one yoga class means you can stand on your head.

Old habits die hard—and self-judgment, internalized criticism—are some of our oldest.

So, if everything in you is saying yes yes yes to this, then I’m thinking you’d like to try this for yourself, especially if you want to:

  • Be more courageous
  • Gain some clarity and insight into your story
  • Get closer to who you are and purpose of your work
  • Reclaim more agency in your work
  • Amplify your voice and share your story
  • Explore a fresh approach to creative work that actually feels amazing to do

Let’s do it.

Best,
Terri

FAQs

What happens after I register? Is there anything I need to do?

Once you submit your registration, you’ll receive a confirmation email (make sure to check your spam folder). We’ll also send you a reminder email with the link before the session! If you haven’t received it or have questions, contact support@territrespicio.com (M-F 9-5p ET).

What if I’m not a writer?

We define writer differently here: A writer is a person who writes. And guess who doesn’t sign up for workshops like these? People who have no interest in writing at all. What you don’t need are any professional writing credentials, writing clips, a book, a blog, or anything of the sort. Will there be people there who identify as writers? Sure. And many who don’t. Some write every day, some haven’t written in years, and some have never given it a thought until now. We ask that you come with an open mind and be prepared to make some interesting discoveries.

Will I get personalized feedback?

What makes these live workshops so fun and fulfilling is their interactive nature and the community vibe. There will be some opportunities to share and give Gateless feedback (and we’ll teach you how to do it!). However, we do not guarantee that all attendees will get feedback on their work, which, actually, isn’t the point or the ultimate win of learning this approach. The goal is to develop a sense of agency vs. a need for approval.

What is The Gateless Method?

The Gateless Method is a framework and technique for teaching the art and craft of writing that draws on the research and work of Suzanne Kingsbury, a Fulbright scholar, novelist, and one of the most sought-after developmental editors in the country. The approach is based on the research that has found that imagination and creativity are best accessed when we reduce activity in the parts of the brain associated with negativity and resistance. By working inside of a critic-free, judgment-free container, we help ease the tendency to self censor or inhibit creative exploration, pushing through creative blocks and discovering the depth and potential on the other side. It involves real-time writing prompts, feedback and a set of rules for talking to one another and about the work.

Will there be a replay?

Yes! Registered attendees will receive a replay of the workshop.

Can I come late/leave early?

We recommend that if you want to participate live, you come for the beginning, because that’s when we’ll do the critical work of setting the container, expectations, and rules of the session. If you are unable to join us within the first 20 minutes, we recommend you watch the replay. You can hop off the call anytime you need to.
