Are you (actually) telling people what you think?
When I had a full-time job a million years ago at a catalog company, I had a lot of questions, and opinions about the answers. Sometimes this was helpful; other times...not.
(One HR woman a million years ago literally asked me if I would not speak up in meetings because when I did, people tended to listen. And she simply couldn’t have that.)
What made me frustrating as an employee, however, has served me very well, however, as a consultant. It’s the job I was born for.
In one of my first consulting jobs when the team was not sure what to do, the head of the company said, Well, what do you think, Terri?
I felt I had died and gone to heaven.
